Sir,
With reference to your letter No. 53838/9/37
of the 3rd instant, I am directed by Mr. Secretary
Eden to state for the information of the Secretary
of State for the Colonies that as at present advised
he inclines to the view that the evacuation of
Japanese nationals from Hong Kong especially at
short notice would be open to political objections
of some force. He is however consulting His Majesty's
Ambassador at Tokyo by telegraph and a further letter
will be addressed to you on receipt of his reply.
I am,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
VAMnals mald
The Under-Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
